Have a 2010 Subaru forester and there is a small problem

Customer Question

Have a 2010 Subaru forester and there is a small problem with the power steering when I first turn the engine on. The power steering feels sluggish and rough but after it is running for a few minutes the steering is normal. It does seem to be slowly getting worse. What is causings this?

What you describe sounds like either a weak power steering pump, dirty power steering fluid that is causing a restriction, or a loose belt that is slipping rather than turning the pump correctly until it warms up. Are you getting any noise from the pump or belt when you first start the car?

I don't hear any noise coming from the pump or belt.... however the belt has never been changed.

How does the power steering fluid look? It is normally clear or light brown.
