2016 Outback lift gate will not close

Customer Question

2016 Outback lift gate will not close

Hello, Eddie here and I will do my best to help. If you open the lift gate, Do you see where the latch hits the striker at? What I want you to do, is while pulling the lift gate handle to open it, take a screwdriver and pry out on the latch, I believe the latch is actually closed and may need to be opened manually while pulling on the handle, you want to pull the handle and pry out on the latch finger where it hits the striker at. Here is a picture of a latch, pry out on the part that moves locking it into the striker. Let me know if that helps. Thanks.

Can you please call me/ it's getting lare
Expert:  Edward replied 8 months ago.

Is it stuck all the way full open? or does it just not latch?

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
All way open can you call me
Expert:  Edward replied 8 months ago.

I could, but it is a premium service. Have you tried the button on the lift gate itself at the button?

Expert:  Edward replied 8 months ago.

At the bottom, not button.

Why am I paying / doesn't Subaru have a servce to help
Expert:  Edward replied 8 months ago.

Yes, they do, Subaru's road side assistance. this is a 2016 correct?

Expert:  Edward replied 8 months ago.

Year model 2016 outback correct?

Expert:  Edward replied 8 months ago.

I wanted you to try the button on the lift gate itself just to see if the remote wasn't sending a signal. This repair I feel sure will be under warranty. So in the event it needs a new sensor, or motor, I would surely think it would be covered.

I didn't want somebody to come and me wait an hour / just tell me how to fix problem Car less than 6 months old
Do you work for Subaru
Expert:  Edward replied 8 months ago.

I did , but not anymore. Did you try the button on the liftgate itself?

Expert:  Edward replied 8 months ago.

It's on the bottom and to the left.

Expert:  Edward replied 8 months ago.

Any luck with that?

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
I finally got it down but have no idea how I did it/ hot as hell here and my wife has messed with this 4 hours
Should have bought a Ford
When I called for roadassistance / they told me it would be an hour
Would the person who came be an expert on Subaru
Expert:  Edward replied 8 months ago.

Sweet. Glad you got it. They are usually not dealer trained techs. But a tech that has general knowledge. I would make an appointment to at the dealer asap. It likely set a code for something if it didn't work, and they can check codes and figure out what happened most likely. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thank you.
