2000 Forester. All was well. Tried to start car and it

Customer Question

2000 Forester. All was well. Tried to start car and it appeared that battery was DEAD. Tried to jump it. When all 4 cables were connected the alarm system began to sound. Pushing black button under dash did not help.
Alarm was not set. Keyfob was broken a couple weeks ago and we have been simply locking the doors manually. Now car will not start. It seems electrically dead.

Hi there,

If you connect the battery and jumper cables now, there is no electrical power to the car at all?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
The alarm begins to sound after connecting jumper cables
Expert:  Mike V. replied 1 year ago.

Ok

Try this

With the jumper cables off the car, turn the ignition switch to run. Then, hook up the jumper cables and turn the ignition switch off, then try to start the car. You may have to let it charge a bit before you can actually start the car, but lets try this to see if we can get the alarm off.

Please try this and let me know.

Cannot try now. We left the car where it was. Will return tomorrow.

Ok, that being the case let me give you an option #2.

Once hooked up, if the alarm is going off, cycle the ignition key from off to on 3 times, this should turn the alarm off.

As long as it's the factory alarm either of these options should work.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It is the factory alarm. Thanks.
