Customer Question

I am replacing the timing belt on a 2002 Forrester with a Gates kit. Is there a particular order in which to install the new idlers? There is no slack in the new belt and I still have the detention pin in the new hydraulic tensioner.

Hello I will help you with your question,

I install the one on the lower left as you are looking at the engine last, it is the one that pushes up on the bottom of the belt and causes the least deflection of the belt.

You did compare the new belt to the old belt to be sure they matched tooth for tooth?

Let me know how I can help

Thank you
