Hi,
I own 2 Subarus, so I'll do my best to help you.
What is your concern, leading you to believe you have a bad driveshaft?

A mechanic quickly looked & thinks it is the driveshaft. There is shaking right below the gear shift when I accelerate from a stop to a go. My questions are (1) How quickly does this need replaced? The rattling just started last week & I need the car to get back and forth from work. Not sure if the rattling is just an indicator going bad or is bad. and (2) Will mechanics typically work with me to find a used part option? I just bought this car three weeks ago with 214k & really hoping I don't need to invest in another 1k for this issue. Thanks

Ok, could be driveshaft or transmission mount.
But if there is a noise as well as a vibration I would act asap.
A lot of shops will try to help you with a used part in good condition, but of course they can't give you a parts warranty like a new part.
Can you let me know what they find?
