2003 Subaru Forester AC working only intermittently; no check engine light or diagnostic codes. Any idea what the problem could be and the cost of the repair? Thanks-

Hi . Thank you for asking your question on JustAnswer Has the refigerant pressure been checked?Thank you again for trusting us with your problem. John aka eauto
Hi John-is this a part of a routine "car clinic" check up? Can I do it myself or must a mechanic perform this service?
you would need to buy a ac gauge to check... And its generally not a part of a general check up...Its usually called a ac perfomance check shops generally charge one hour for this service
sounds like it may be low on refigerant. It may possibly have a leak
Can you tell me how to check it myself please?
you will need to buy manifold gauges..They cost around 100 dollars at a parts store the hoses get hooke up to the high and low side fittings...The gauges will measure the pressure in the ac system
Is there a link you can provide me with that will detail how to do this check? High and low side fittings does not mean much to me. Also what the ideal pressure should be, etc.
pressures vary on outside temperature
I hoped to do this check myself. Your answer is not complete enough for me to do this. I asked for a link, or at least basic information on how to do the check. I don't want to be told I need an expensive repair, if all I need is refrigerant.
