My 2011 Subaru Outback has a ticking noise in the engine since the first day I owned it. SOA tech rep told me that the noise is caused by the pulleys, belts or tenioners. He said "It is a common sound, normal, almost all 2010-2011 Outbacks have it". Is this a common noise? If it is SOA, should tell the buyer before it is purchased. Answer please.
Make: SubaruModel: outbackEngine: 2.5 boxer Already Tried: pulleys and belts and tensioners adjusted or replaced at appox. 12k. Sound reappeared after 2 months.

Hello, although it's hard to judge any noise without hearing it, I can tell you that I have not found any "tick noise" issues with any 2010 or 2011 Outbacks I have serviced in my dealership. If the noise diminished for a while then came back, I cannot imagine it's a normal noise.
I would ask the dealer to let you listen to another car (same year and model) to determine if that car has the same "normal" noise.
If you are still not satisfied with the outcome, you should call Customer service and explain to them that you are not satisfied with the explanation. 1-800-SUBARU3.
I have had some Subbies with tick noises in the past but they were all correctable...Timing belt tensioners mainly.
Let me know if I can help further, Kevin
