Customer Question

2003 Outback: When backing-up, a high pitched whine comes from the front of the car. First feared it was the transmission, but with the transmission in neutral, when the car rolls backwards on an incline, same whine is present. Sound familiar???

Welcome to JA! I am Carguy1 and I will assist you today.
Hi there!
It may be the warning tab on the brake pads telling you the pads need changing.
If the sound stops if you press the brake pedal while backing up this is the problem. When you press the brakes the squealer can't vibrate and make noise any more.
Try it and let me know!
Thanks
