Customer Question

I have a 2006 Forester. I was waiting in line this morning to get coffee. Motor was running, I put the transmission in park. I had a really tough time getting the transmission to move into drive. It took a little while before I could move the shift lever to drive. Is this a problem I need to deal with?

Hi there,
Was it just that one time? Does it move freely for you now?
Let me know!

Customer replied 348 days and 17 hours ago.

It happened once before. It seems to move freely now.

Ok, it sounds like possible issue with the shift lock solenoid at the shifter.
Sometimes they bind up a bit, if for example there has been something spilled in that area. At times I have had to clean up the linkage as it gets sticky.
At this point, I don't think you have a major issue and it might not even be diagnosable if it's not happening.
Probably going to have to wait until it gets a little more frequent to actually find the problem. If you have spilled coffee or something in that area. You can pop the cover off the shifter and clean the rod for the shift lock. It might help.
Hope this helps!
Thanks
