Hello I will help you with your question,

Does it seem to shift normally> (It should)

If it shifts normally there is no problem driving it until you can get the speed sensor repaired,

Let me know what I can do to help you

Thank you

Can speed sensors be repaired or do they need to be replaced? and idea on the expense of this
Thanks

I am sorry, you have a cable drive not a sensor on this vehicle so it is unlikely that the cable has broken unless you hear a noise form the back of the speedometer. It will be likely that the speedometer head will have to be replaced with a used unit.

This should be less than $250 but that depends on where a used unit can be sourced from.

The newer vehicles use a speed sensor to communicate the transmission speed to the speedometer head and this sensor often fails but yours uses a cable.

If you do hear a noise like a broken cable turning then it is a simple matter to pull the cable and install a new one which would be less than $100 if that were the case.

Sorry for the misinformation in my first post, please let me know what I can do to help you

Thank you

Thank you very much, I had the Speedometer cable replaced a few months ago. (Also 10 years ago, so maybe there is an issue there) So I will bring it to my mechanic on monday, he only works on Subaru.
As long as there is no danger of damage, I am in good shape.
One last question, this issue would make the engine light come on?
Thanks Mark

This should not turn on the engine light. The drive in the transmission for the cable may have a problem and that would be more serious but if you do not feel any other problems it should be fine to operate until you can have it looked at.

Let me know what I can do to help you with this

Thank you
