Car type - Subaru RS Impreza 2002, CV joints are starting to leak, my mechanic tells me it will cost nearly $2000 to fix it up. He told me this 3months ago, now I'm almost ready for service, unsure of cost

Hi Kevin, I just wanted to know how this is a $2000 job.. and is there a way I can get it done cheaper?
Axle boots leaking grease?
torn?
Unsure what its leaking.. my mechanic said it just leaking, and i should either sell the car or cough up ~$2000 at eh next service to fix the CV joints.. I have no idea what the CV jnts do or what potentially could leak from it
CV joints are the outer joints of the axle (Constant Velocity Joint) The price sounds terribly high. Here in the states at my dealer, we install both front Subaru Remanufactured axles for $650.00 American..thats parts and labor
hmm.. I thought so also.. I shall shop around . thanks for your input..bj
Good idea..thank you
