Hello I will help you with your question,

 

There are only a front and rear sensor on your vehicle so you don't have a bank 1 and 2. The sensor 1 is the one closest to the engine or the front one.

I thought this car had 4 O2 sensors. It is a 2006 Subaru Impreza Wagon, does that make a difference?

Is this the 3.0 or 3.6 liter engine then it does have four sensors

So, the 2nd diagram, that is the one I am going to use. Because the car is a 2006, so it is the same diagram for the 3.0 and 3.6, right? And so the bank 1 sensor 1 would be on the left side of the car at the front correct?
