Customer Question

I'm. Taking out a loadbearing wall and opening up my house I will have a span of 24 feet that will have to be supported by an LVL. Would 1inch and three-quarter by 18" x 24' long LVLbe good enough
JA: OK. Is there anything else important you think the Structural Engineer should know?
Customer: Can I go lower like an 11?inch high LVL or should I go even higher at like the 24 inch LVL

Are you there
Expert:  walkereng replied 5 months ago.

Sorry for the delay, I have been traveling the last couple of days.

Item #1, you said New Beam #4, then later you said the new header would only support the roof/attic. That sounds like a New Beam #3. Can you look at my sketch again to be sure?

Item #2 you gave me the spacing of your joists/rafters, I need to know the span length of those members (distance between supporting walls).
