What is the joist length on each side? Is it supporting a roof and floor? No attic?
Expert:  StructuralEng replied 3 months ago.
Do you want steel or wood?
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
the joist length is 12ft on each side using 2x8 floor joists supporting second floor bedrooms, and attic floor, prefer wood, however would consider steel I beam
Expert:  StructuralEng replied 3 months ago.
Will this also support the roof? It would be atypical for an interior beam to support the roof, but not unheard of
Expert:  StructuralEng replied 3 months ago.
Will it support any ceramic tile?
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
not supporting the roof- Gambrel colonial home
Expert:  StructuralEng replied 3 months ago.
As wood you'll need a 7" X 20" LVL 2.0E
Expert:  StructuralEng replied 3 months ago.
Steel would be W14x34 ASTM A992 Gr. 50. It will be critical that the joists are detailed to brace the beam laterally
