Customer Question

I've got a free standing car port 24'x 12'. It has a standard stick built gable roof. I'd like to place a post center span on each side along the 24'. This is on the northern California coast and subjected to high winds. I'll be using Doug-fir beams and posts. What size beams do I need to support the roof? What fasteners/hardware would be best for sheer bracing?

I can give you some general ways to provide lateral resistance, but to do a complete lateral analysis would be done as an additional service
