Customer Question

I am expanding a deck. Current deck is 4' X 20' outside my living room on second floor. I rebuilt the deck last summer and now i want to extend the deck out another 8' so it will be 12' X 20'. The new deck section will be over a concrete patio which has a 20" X 20" square, 35" high brick column on each corner. The span between my corner posts will be approximately 19'. Will a triple 2X10 be sufficient for this span? The rafters will be 8' long on 16" center.
JA: OK. Anything else I can tell the Structural Engineer before I connect you two?
Customer: I live in Georgia.
JA: I'm sending you to a secure page on JustAnswer so you can place the $5 fully refundable deposit now. While you're filling out that form, I'll tell the Structural Engineer about your situation and connect you two.

Will this 19' beam be supporting only the 8' joists?
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
The deck frame will sit on 6"X6" posts at the two corners and attach to the existing deck which spans the 19' between two brick columns. the deck will support the joists, decking, and handrail
