I am wanting to determine what size glulam beam I would need

Customer Question

I am wanting to determine what size glulam beam I would need for a free standing 20' x 30' patio cover. I will be using engineered trusses to span the 20' direction. I also need to know what size post I need to support the glulam and at what spacing? I live in an area with a 25 lb snow load requirement. And will be installing an asphalt shingles.
JA: OK. Is there anything else important you think the Structural Engineer should know?
Customer: no

Hello. I can help. Can I get back to you in a couple hours?

Expert:  StructuralEng replied 1 year ago.

I can size the beam for Gravity loading. You will need to also have the entire structure analyzed for wind. Do you want to clear span the 30' or so you want more posts with a smaller beam?

I was thinking of putting in a post every 10 ft or so.
