Hello

Expert:  StructuralEng replied 1 year ago.

Is it supporting a single floor or two? What about an attic? Will it support any ceramic tile?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Single story ranch. (For now). Will eventually be dormered. Hardwood floors no ceramic..open floor plan

Received an answer from an engineer of 3-1 3/4" x12"x 2- 1" flitch plates. Seems way to big
Expert:  StructuralEng replied 1 year ago.

My initial says that feels small. I will check it

Do you need to clear span the 24'? Is the roof trusses or rafters and joists?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Rafters and joist. I will compromise with a column at 14'. So a span of 10' and 14'
Expert:  StructuralEng replied 1 year ago.

What I calculate, using L/360 for deflection, is two 1.75" x 11.25" LVL with a single 5/8" x 11.25" steel plate. The steel plate must be full length with no breaks and must bear on the supports.
