In Pennsylvania how big is a roof ridge beam required to be?

Customer Question

In Pennsylvania how big is a roof ridge beam required to be?

It will depend on the span of the ridge beam and the load it will carry

Expert:  walkereng replied 1 year ago.

What span are you looking at?

What city are you near in PA?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I am near Scranton. The span is perhaps 12 feet but the reason for the question is that this is a French mansard roof where the roof rises to a flat at the top. On a pitch that steep, perhaps 20 over 12, if you follow the dictates of the Pennsylvania code, you'd have to have a ridge that is about 30" deep. PA UCC section R802.3 !?

Is your roof configuration similar to the image below?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
except that ours is flat on the top, and has a "kick" at the bottom.

can you print out the picture i attached and assume the roof is flat on top and the put some demensions on it so i fully understand your configuration?
