They don't make LVL 8.5" . It's 7.25", 9.25", and 9.5". There is no 8.5"

we have looked into that...but we were thinking of cutting the height of the lvl to 8.5 so it doesnt go below the suffot framing...we can use a 9.5 lvl if it is okay to remove the 2 top plates? or at least 1 of the top plates? is this possible?

Hello. If you want to cut an LVL to 8.5", you will need it to be 7" wide and 2.2E stress grade. The cut side should go on the top to be in compression.

one more thing...can i remove one of the two top rails and have my header sit under just the 1 top rail?
