Removing 26 LF of wall to replace with LVL to form an open

Customer Question

Removing 26 LF of wall to replace with LVL to form an open concept. Single story ranch house with limited storage attic above. 2x6 ceiling joists. What size LVL and how many is my question? I have already re-enforced the wall with solid studs to support beam.

Hello. I can help

Expert:  StructuralEng replied 1 year ago.

What is the joist length on each side of the beam? It will support the attic only and not the roof, correct?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
The joists are 16 and 11 feet on each side. There is one brace in the middle of the wall under the ridge board of the roof.

You can plan for a 7" x 24" 1.8" LVL

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Just making sure I understand. So, I would need 4 pieces of LVL at 24'' wide and 26' long?

Correct.
