Customer Question

I want to open up a non bearing wall. 21 feet 1 3/4 in . My glue lam is 3 1/2 - 12 . 1.8e 3000fb. There is an open loft above. I am putting 3 jack studs at each end. I blocked up in crawl space under bearing points. Is a center post of 3 in needed ?

Hello

Expert:  StructuralEng replied 1 year ago.

If it's a non bearing wall then it's not carrying any load. Is that the case?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No load. It is a bedroom above. Cathedral ceiling with knee walls. House is only 20 feet wide.knee walls sit in about 5 or 6 ft from outside.

Just because it's a bedroom above doesn't mean it's not load bearing. How did you determine its not load bearing?
