Customer Question

I am eliminating a bulkhead door opening into a basement. The foundation (8 foot walls, 8" thick) has a 4'x 6' bump out to accommodate the Bilco door and stairs from grade down into the basement. I will be pouring a 6" concrete slab over this opening, and I'd like to cantilever the slab beyond the outer edge of the foundation as far as possible. Is there enough rebar in the world to extend the slab 18" beyond the foundation?

Hello. I can help. Yes, the slab can be designed to cantilever.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Excellent. What sort of spacing would be required for #4 rebar?
Expert:  StructuralEng replied 1 year ago.
This depends on a lot of things. I can design the rebar as an additional service, but I will need a lot more information.

Thanks for the offer, but I'll ask the engineers on staff at the ready-mix plant. I appreciate your response and will keep this in mind if they can't turn it right around. Regards, Donn

No problem. I'm happy to help. Good luck with your project.

Just be sure they are engineers. I don't know any ready mix plants that have engineers on staff except as a precast plant.

But they only supply concrete to their own plant, not for public purchase.

I am a little confused about how Just Answer works, as my credit card was just charged $5 and $10, but I didn't really get any answer, just an offer to spend more more to actually get an answer. I understand this isn't your fault- this seems to be how the system works- but how does one request a refund?

Sorry- found my answer!
