I am designing my new home 36'x48'. The plan is to have a 24'x36

Customer Question

I am designing my new home 36'x48'. The plan is to have a 24'x36 cathedral great room using a ridge beam with I-joist rafters on 24" spacing. The roof pitch is 10/12. My question is how big of a beam do I need to span the 24' using either LVL or gluelam? Also, do I need to use horizontal ties to prevent outward deflection of the 12' walls? I live in Eastern Oregon and we get snow.

I'll be happy to size the ridge beam for you. Do you mind asking the rafter question separately?
What is the city and state so I can determine the snow loading.
