What is the city and state so I can look at snow loading? What is the rafter length on each side of the beam? Do you also have attic joists supported by the header?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Poughkeepsie ny 12603 also the wall is at the end of the building only ceiling joist and sheathing and shingles above ceiling joist spane 12 feet to the other end wall

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
what about metal I beam
Expert:  StructuralEng replied 1 year ago.
They are only 3" deep. The 6 means they each weigh 6 pounds per foot.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
so is that a 3/16 inch thick c channel my metal shop says only 4.51 pounds per foot
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
that is 4.51 pounds per foot each
Expert:  StructuralEng replied 1 year ago.
Channel flanges taper, they are not constant thickness. There is no C3x4.51 as a standard C shape.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok s a 3 inch by 1.5 inch c channel x 2 will work then
