Customer Question

I have 3 parallams nested together their size is 1.5 in by 7.25 inches , the span is 15 feet 8 inches . This is supporting a bedroom over a kitchen area ,directly above is open , doesn,t seem to support the roof . At present there are 2 decorative columns spaced at about 6 feet apart , I want to remove the 2 columns . The question is will I have to add parallams under the existing parallams , the joists are held in place by joist hangars ?

Is it supporting the bedroom and an attic or just the bedroom?
What is the joist length on each side of the beam?
I assume there is no ceramic tile. Is that the case?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
there is an attic above the bedroom ,not used for living space ,but in line with the parallams it is wide open .the joists are on 12 inch centres the span is 10 feet

No just carpeting in the bedroom
Expert:  StructuralEng replied 2 years ago.
You will need a 5.25" x 11.25" 2.0E LVL under the existing beams to span the full 16'-7".

Where do I see your answer
Expert:  StructuralEng replied 2 years ago.
Directly above your last post. The 16'-7", should be 15'-8". That was my fat finger making a typo.
