walkereng :

I have attached a guide that covers all of the limit for notching and boring.

walkereng :

The short answer is no you can not bore that large of a hole through a 2x6

walkereng :

You are limited to 1.5" in a 2"x6" joist

walkereng :

Are you still there?

walkereng :

Sorry your maximum bore hole diameter in a 2x6 is d/3 or 1.83"

that hole is for the stud right, not the joist

I apologize, for some reason I assumed you were talking about joists.

If you look at the bottom of page two in the file I attached, look at Figure #3. It shows the 40% rule and the 60% rule.

40% would be 2.2" and 60% would be 3.3" for a 2x6. A 60% hole is allowed in a bearing wall with not more than two successive studs bored and doubled. You would be limited to the 3.3" hole and it has to be at least 5/8" away from the stud edge.
