StructuralEng :

Hi, I can help. Let me read closer.

StructuralEng :

Before we get started I’d like to point out that a Professional
Engineer’s standard of care typically includes a site visit to assess field
conditions and get an overall understanding of the structure. This can
obviously not be accomplished through the internet. The information
provided here is meant for informational purposes only (general sizing and
budgeting) and is based on the information provided by you. The
information should be verified by a professional engineer who can visit the
site to ensure that potentially important information has not been overlooked
or omitted.

StructuralEng :

Will the cocnrete be detailed to brace the beams?

StructuralEng :

What grade of steel?

Customer : Yes,
Customer : Standard grade steel
StructuralEng :

Great. Give me a few minutes to run some numbers. Do you have any specific deflection criteria to meet?

Customer : No, this is for a deck above a residential patio...
StructuralEng :

ok

Customer : Ok what?
StructuralEng :

Acknowleding your last comment. I'm checking it out right now.

StructuralEng :

Assuming A992 steel (typical for WF shapes), The W4x13 can hold (in additional to the 50 psf concrete and 10 psf superimposed DL) a total of 50 psf LL while maintaining L/360 deflection.
