Customer Question

I have a garage 32' wide that has a modified queenpost truss. I would like to make 3 of the 24" oc spans scissor type trusses. Is it possible to glue plywood to each side of the existing 3 trusses and replace the bottom coarse with a new coarse making my present truss a scissor configuration?

StructuralEng : Hi
StructuralEng : I can help
StructuralEng : Let me read closer
StructuralEng :

Before we get started I’d like to point out that a Professional
Engineer’s standard of care typically includes a site visit to assess field
conditions and get an overall understanding of the structure. This can
obviously not be accomplished through the internet. The information
provided here is meant for informational purposes only (general sizing and
budgeting) and is based on the information provided by you. The
information should be verified by a professional engineer who can visit the
site to ensure that potentially important information has not been overlooked
or omitted.

StructuralEng :

Gluing plywood to the beams and attempting to use that as a gusset for a truss will definitely NOT work.

Customer :

I have a toy magic "8" Ball in the closet that gave me the same answer. Thanks anyway.

StructuralEng : Can you tell me exact what you were expecting? That's exactly the question that you asked. If you have a different question, let me know a d I'll try to address it.
