Are these both preterit
the first one is imperfect... It is saying something general, like the used to live in mexico.
The second one has a definite time frame element. That is clearly preterite.
Preterite is for actions in the past that are finished. I ate, We saw, we ran. etc.
Imperfect is ongoing action in the past.
Like when you are telling a story in the past, the setting is imperfect... Examples: it was a dark night.
But the actions within a past story are preterite.

it should say: vivia with the 2nd i accented.
but the answer is
dormia
with the i accented.
This is like saying she used to sleep in a large bed.
The time period is indefinite. Therefore it is imperfect.
You must have hit the wrong key in vivia, since the "s" is by the "a".
