Hi Pearl, thank for being there.
JA: What state are you in? It matters because laws vary by location.
Customer: Do you perhaps know if South Africa has a statute of limitation on unpaid debt?
JA: Has anything been filed or reported?
Customer: In South Africa, yes, but I've been living in the United States since 2004.
JA: Anything else you want the lawyer to know before I connect you?
Customer: No, it's quite simple.

Good evening,

Kindly elaborate on the kind of debt you mentioned in your question. Is it simply an unpaid account to a retailer, or an unpaid loan, or money owed to the State, or a judgment debt?

Regards,

BB

Hi Barend,It's an unpaid credit card. Thanks,
Alla

Good evening,

Provided that the credit card company did not obtain judgment against you, the debt will prescribe after 3 years after your last transaction (whether it is a purchase or payment into the credit card). A judgment debt will only prescribe after 30 years.

Regards,

BB
