I have reason to use rented commercial property as a dual residence

This answer was rated:

I have reason to use rented commercial property as a dual residence and work environment; is this legally possible under property/residence laws in South Africa?
Good evening,

As long as the lease agreement, the building plans and the zoning provisions relating to the property permits residential use as well, nothing prohibits you from residing on a commercial property, provided it is safe for you to do so. You should also bear in mind that when you reside on a commercial property you will not have the protection of the bylaws relating to a residential property. You won't be able to complain about noisy neighbours and that kind of thing.
