Replaced a Windows 2k3 server with a Windows 2008 server.

Customer Question

Replaced a Windows 2k3 server with a Windows 2008 server. Moved all the shares to the new server. Demoted the old server. Now a member server. The Wordperfect data files are on the new server. When we shut down the old server the merge files do not work. When we turn on the old server they start working again even though the shares have all been removed.

Hi my name is ***** ***** I may be able to assist. Have you checked to see if the path to the files on the merge point to the name of the old server? You might be able to place a DNS or WINS entry for the old server to point to the IP address of the new server.

files are on the new server and those files are mapped on the pc's. If you go to data in Wordperfect 12 it comes up with a notification that it can not get to this. It is a location on the old file server. However, it still does not work if you pick the document and the form manually within Wordperfect. Is there some global setting to aim Wordperfect to these locations. We know that it is using UNC naming to look for these.

You might check this fields in the WordPerfect settings:

Open WordPerfect and then open the File Settings dialog by clicking onTools, Settings, Files, Template (tab).

Note: If you cannot even open WordPerfect to view that dialog, see the more detailed "Default template" section on the Templates page here.

• Take note of the contents in the two fields there:
"Default template folder" and "Default template".

Not the issue. The frm files have a reference to the old file server. We have edited the file to point to the new server. Then when we pick data source it tells us that we do not have permissions to pick file.

Is this a Windows permissions error that comes up when you choose the new file? It's possible that you might not have rights or Ownership of the file you are choosing. You can check this by right clicking on the file, choose Properties, Click the Security Tab and then Advanced. There will be an Ownership tab at the top to tells you who has permissions.

Not a permissions issue. When the old server is on the files can be accessed. When off the operation fails. We need to find out how to change the information in the frm file. When we view it with a utility it has the UNC path to the old server.
