Customer Question

I have Photoshop CS 6 for Windows. I have Windows 7.5 Professional.
If I select an area on a layer by clicking on the layer icon and then hitting the Backspace key, I get what seems to be a one pixel outline of the original shape.
I hope someone can help me here so that I can delete the complete shape rather than being left with a one pixel outline.
Thank you.
