How can I make my PC work faster, it is very slow?

Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

that's kind of a loaded question. It depends on hardware and software. You may have some malware or the computer itself may be an older model. Can you provide your computer make and model?

Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

I can look up the make and model for you for the hardware specs and see what can be done if it is a hardware issue.

Customer: replied 12 months ago.
I am clueless when it comes to technology. I always seek the help of my friends.
This time I want to do it on my own. So can you tell me exactly what to do to help get the information needed?
Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

First let's take a look at what you have for hardware. Do you see any names on the computer?

Customer: replied 12 months ago.
Intel, Energy star, Trubrite 15,6 HD, HDMI, fast file transfer with USB 3.0, satellite c55 series.
Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

Ok. That's a good start. Now those are just specs on the computer. However I do see a brand name satellite c55 series which sounds like a toshiba satellite c55 series. Sounds like a laptop if I am correct.

Customer: replied 12 months ago.
True, Toshiba laptop
Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

Ok. Good job. Now we need to get a bit further in the details. This may require you to turn over the laptop for some specific information. What we want to look for is additional model information. It should be on the back on a tag or it may be on the right or left side of the laptop. below the keyboard. The C55 series has multiple versions of the product. What I am looking for specifically is something that would say C55 - <additional information>

For example Satellite C55-A-100 is a model number for the C55 series laptops

Customer: replied 12 months ago.
These are all the things that I found on the back
windows 8
a note that reads: this device has been reconditioned and although not new is warranted by toshiba America information systems GMAE04974010tested to comply with FCC standardsI am not sure this is helpful
Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

Okay no that won't work for this one but I am glad you had the opportunity to see that part.

Let's try this another way. If you don't mind where did you purchase? I may be able to lock down by looking up their past sales. Also, you did send me some specs I can narrow down to that as well

Customer: replied 12 months ago.
I didn't buy my friend did.
Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

Ok

Customer: replied 12 months ago.
by the way I got these 3 messages
windows defenders need to scan your computer
disable apps to help improve performance
verify your identity on this pc
is that helpful?
Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

Let's try this...

Let's go to the following website. It will scan for us and provide the information we need

www.crucial.com

Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

You will see a system scanner button on the right. Select the box to download and run.

Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

You will have to agree to the terms.

Customer: replied 12 months ago.
I have agreed to the terms and downloaded it
Customer: replied 12 months ago.
It is in process now
Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

Ok good

Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

Let me know when it's finished.

Customer: replied 12 months ago.
Ok, does this usually take much time?
Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

On occasion depends on the processing power of the device

Customer: replied 12 months ago.
ok. thank you. I will let you know when it is done.
Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

When you were reviewing the back of your laptop did you see a serial number by chance? That's another way we can find out.

Customer: replied 12 months ago.
I am checking
Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

http://support.toshiba.com/sscontent?contentId=4007069

Take a look at the link I sent to you. This is where it would be located.

Customer: replied 12 months ago.
It seems that the serial number is ***** under a sealed sticker. So I can't really see the number.
Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

Ok did the scan finish?

Customer: replied 12 months ago.
The scan is still in progress.
I tried to read the number.
4E068703U
I not sure if the last is a letter or a number .. if it is a U or a 0
Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

Cool I think you got it.. It's a C55-A5105 it has a maximum memory allowed up to 8GB

Customer: replied 12 months ago.
good
Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

At this point how familiar are you with Windows 8?

Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

Just in case the memory upgrades for your specific laptop is $47.00

Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

I may need to do a remote session with you if you're not comfortable with Windows 8. It's a bit different than Windows 10 and drastically changed from Windows 7. I can provide remote support for $50.00 if you're interested.

Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

Or we can try a online virus scanner to review whether your laptop is infected. Do you currently have a Antivirus?

Customer: replied 12 months ago.
is there any way that I can improve the performance of my laptop without having to upgrade it?
Customer: replied 12 months ago.
I have an antivirus. but I am not sure If I skipped updating it and some malware could enter
Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

There may be however the steps taken so far has provided us with some information that will allow us to check into hardware specs. Since it's a laptop refurbished the original settings or parts may be either more or less. The scan itself should tell us more, that there will be no need to review the actual specs remotely. However, I can direct you to a online virus scanner that may be able to at least see if there is malware on the laptop.

Customer: replied 12 months ago.
ok will you please direct me to one online virus scanner?
Expert:  Robert Bailey replied 12 months ago.

http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/

This url can be used for scanning online. If this does not work. Again, I can provide remote support.
