Customer Question

I was using the classic desktop with icons on Windows 8.1. I upgraded to Windows 10 with no problems. Something happened yesterday, my screen reverted back to the new Windows desktop format. How can I change back to the classic with icons?

Thank you for writing back with that confirmation.

Unfortunately, that is the default look and feel or desktop interface for Windows 10. However, you can add icons to your desktop so that it will look similar to your previous Windows 8.1. Is that what you want to do?

Or do you want to uninstall Windows 10 and go back to Windows 8.1?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No. My desktop in Windows 8.1 had the option to use the same format as Windows XP. That format transferred when I updated to Windows 10. Something happened yesterday and the desktop switched to using tiles instead of icons. Do you know how to switch to icons without having to recreate the whole desktop of 70 icons?

Thank you for writing back with that information.

Please try to do the following:

  1. In the search box at the bottom bar, or the search bar, please type there:
    desktop icon
  2. In the search results, please locate the command that says something like "Show or hide common icons on the desktop"
  3. When found, please click on it and allow your icons to be shown
  4. Then test if your set of desktop icons are restored.

Please let me know your results so that I can assist you further.

Jess

That did not work. Thanks for trying. While I was waiting I discovered a 3rd party program that was written to correct this problem.
Goodbye.
