I need to install Internet Explorer 9 on a new Windows 7

Customer Question

I need to install Internet Explorer 9 on a new Windows 7 computer. I have downloaded it okay from the web. When I try to install it, it says Internet Explorer is already installed. (Internet Explorer 11 comes bundled with the Windows 7 operating system.)
I disabled Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 7 and tried to install IE 9 again. I got the same message saying Internet Explorer is already installed. I need advice on how to get Internet Explorer 9 installed on the machine. Thanks. John Mee

Hi there John and welcome

Go to Control Panel, uninstall a program

Then click on Turn Windows features on/off

Then uncheck internet explorer 11

Once done, restart the computer and then go online (use Firefox or Google Chrome) and try to install IE 9.

Let me know the results please

Richard,
My original message says I already tried the solution you suggest.

I only saw you disabled it John, not removed it, sorry... disabling can mean a number of things and I do not assume here, especially as I have no ideas of the level of knowledge the customer has. Sorry if this offended you in any way.

Which version of windows 7 is this? eg; Professional, Ultimate?

Richard,
Your instructions were the same as those we found on the web and tried last week.
We tried the procedure again. The error message was:
"IE 9 did not finish installing. IE 9 is already installed."
IE 9 does not appear in the programs list on control panel.
Kind regards,
John Mee

Hello Richard,
You have not responded to the message above which I sent 5 days ago on 23 October.
Do you have a solution to the issue? If so, would you please advise me. If not, I will seek assistance elsewhere.
Thank you for your attention.

Hi there John,

For some reason the response did not show, likely as it was a number of days later and sometimes the system does not pick this up.

Your going to have to use a virtual computer to do this, you can get VM Ware Player from here

https://www.vmware.com/products/player

free for home use.

Then use a windows Vista or Windows 7 Disk to install it within the Virtual PC. Then you run Vista or 7 inside of this and within this you can use Internet Explorer 9 (you need to upgrade it from version 8 that comes with it).

Else you would need to reinstall your current computer to get IE 8 again that comes with it then upgrade this to 9
