it continues to scroll like it is trying to open but never does

Just to be sure, as it can be overlooked, but have you restarted the computer since doing the upgrade?

And which version of photoshop is this?

I did reboot and the version is 5.5

Ill be honest, even if we get it working via this next trick, it generally stops working after a few weeks. It is classed as not being compatible and an upgrade to the current version is advised.

But what can get it working for now is to right click on the icon you double click to run photoshop and select properties.

then choose compatibility and choose windows xp service pack 3

At the bottom on that tab choose run as administrator.

Click ok and then try to run it.

yes, in the long run, was trying to see if we could get you going for a few more weeks.

But realistically your options are to revert to the previous version of windows (as the upgrade can be undone) or to take the upgrade with the version that does run on windows 10 which is the current version

ok, I gave the instructions for this to see if we can get this to work. Did you do the instructions I gave?

I did do the service pack 3 and run as admin - does not seem to have helped open the software

ok, now do this please

Press the windows key + X and click on Command Prompt (Admin)

A black window will open.

Type in it

sfc /scannow

press enter and when it has completed, type in

chkdsk /r

Press enter.

It will give a message "the type of the file system is NTFS cannot lock current drive.

chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts y/n" Say Y, press enter and restart the computer.

Please note, while this normally only takes 10 minutes to run, it can take at times number of hours if windows encounters many issues. If this is occurring it is critical to let this complete as it means you have corruption on the hard drive that it needs to fix. Even if it looks like the scan is not progressing, it is, please just let it run to completion. Windows will then start when it has.

Then try to open Photoshop
