I am trying to print a page of a PDF. Why does the Print option force me to save file and now allow me to print. Yes I am selecting my printer. I have always been able to print PDFs, now it switches to "Save file" mode. Ugh.
Already Tried: Help files
Welcome to DANGEROUS URL REMOVED. My name is XXXXX XXX I will be assisting you with this problem.
Hi Bryan
When you try to Print, can you tell me the filename that it is trying to save to? Does it end with .XPS or .PDF?
Let me check
When I select print, and it switches to save as, it displays the origional File name for Save file type it says Type: ALl files (*.*)
the drop down arrow does not allow me to select a different file type
What program do you have running that you are trying to print from?
Adobe. Trying to just print a page of a PDF
Is it Adobe Reader? Acrobat?
Sorry... Adobe Reader
Ok, give me a second.
I'm sorry ... this is taking a little longer than expected. My primary computer just crashed so I had to move to a secondary, that didn't have Adobe Reader on it. I'm almost done though.
If you solve this thing...it will be worth the wait!
heheh .. ok, could. What operating system are you using? Windows? And if so, XP, Vista or 7?
Windows 7
Ok, I'm finally back up and running. Sorry about that. Do you have the latest Adobe Reader X installed?
Not sure how to tell but every time it asks me to intall an update I say yes.
Ok. Can you go to "Help - About Adobe Reader X", it will tell you the version number on the lower part of the about screen.
Help showed Adobe 10.1.3 and when I selected updates, it said No Updates available
Very good. Ok, and you have a PDF loaded now?
Yup
Several actually and all of them do the same thing
Ok, Hit Ctrl-P, tell me what comes up.
I get the print parameters (Preview and select printer and options)
Ok, at the very top, it says "Printer" what printer is listed there?
My normal printer. Dell Laser Printer 1720 XL
Just printed a word doc to it with no problems.
hmmm ... ok, I was actually expecting something else.
The help I found on line seems to indicate that people were not selecting a real printer. Some how Adobe isn't seeing it.
Really ... ok, that is odd. Try printing from Adobe again, and I'll have you send me a screen capture.
Okay. I wondered if Adobe has a security setting where people can't print their files...
Windows 7 security ... considering that you can print from Word, that's not the problem.
Attached is file Print version 1, when I select Control P, I get printer options,
File Print version 2, is what happens when I click Print, it gives me the "save as" parameters but saves the file with no file type.
Okay, didn't attach files...just have to figure out how to do that
It's probably easier to upload them to wikisend.com, I can grab them from there.

http://wikisend.com/download/182556/Print view 1.JPG
Whew. That should be both screen captures
Ok, give me a second
Yep. This is a new one. If you save the file, will it print afterwards?
They follow along with the
Only if you right click on it in windows explorer. Problem is, you don't get print paramters so you get the whole file. If you OPEN it from Windows explorer, and it opens Adober reader, it won't print
Ok, so this is definitely specific to Adobe then. I'd like you to uninstall Adobe, but I'm not confident that Windows will get rid of all traces of it before re-installation. Can you go to: http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html and use Revo to uninstall Adobe Reader. Then we'll reinstall from the Adobe site.
Uh...I can try. Do I do this now?
Well, before you do ... can you clarify when these 2 screenshots were done?
Oh wait ... nvm ... I understand now, yes, please download Revo.
Okay, Just downloaded revo and removed adobe reader. including a few left over files that were found in scan. Should I reinstall?
BTW. Adobe flash is sitll there. Not related right?
Not a problem
Do I reinstall off of Adobe site?
Yep
Okay...ready for the big test
Alright ... crossing everything ...
WOO HOO! It printed! Thank you JBryan42. That has been driving me nuts for months.
No problem at all. :) Just all a matter of troubleshooting. :) Have a great night.
You too. Thank you! Great service.
