At death, there is a 1 time only $255 death benefit. She would also receive a survivor benefit of 100% of your benefit but only if it is larger than your own retirement benefit. These benefits do not stack so this survivor benefit would only be given if it is larger than your wife's benefit. This benefit starts as early as age 60 or age 50 if she is disabled. This benefit will be 100% once your wife reaches full retirement age if it is before it will be reduced by the early retirement penalty.
