I am receiving a school board retirement check, how much will I be penalized when I apply for social security?
JA: These retirement benefits are supposed to help us but they can be so complicated! The Retirement Expert will help you get the most benefits propertly. Please tell me more, so we can help you best.
Customer: Retirement check is $545.00 a month estimated social security benefit is $900.00 a month at 66 years old.

Because of the Windfall Elimination Provision of social security, your social security benefit will be decrease by right at about 50% of the retirement pension that you collect from the school district. So, if your state pension is $545, then social security will deduct about $270 per month from your social security benefit---meaning that you will collect social security retirement of about $630 per month.
