Customer Question

My wife and I were married in the sixties 1967 to 1974. We are thinking of getting remarried in our late 60's early seventies. How long do we have to be married for either spouse to receive ss benefits after our deaths?

Hi. My name is ***** ***** I will be happy to help you.

Once you are married, there's no waiting period. Even if you die 2 hours after you say I do, your spouse will be already eligible for survivor/widow benefits. The 10 year requirement is only for benefits for divorced couples.
