My father is 87 years old. My mother died of stage 4 cancer

Customer Question

My father is 87 years old. My mother died of stage 4 cancer last week at the age of 86 and she was receiving dependent's pension. Will my deceased mother's monthly pension be added to my father's?

Benefits paid to a spouse does not decrease the worker's retirement benefit. If your mother was receiving SSA benefits based on the work history of your father, his benefits would not increase now due to her passing.

Please accept my condolences.
