Customer Question

I'm a 64 year old who has worked my whole life. I'm currently receiving California State disability. Can I apply for my social security benefit without impacting what I receive from the state or social security?

Hi,

...

Yes, you certainly can.

...

You will receive more if you wait for full Social Secueirt retirement age of 66.

...

But if you have worked more than the required 40 quarters (essentiallly 10 years) and don't receive a benefit from a pension or program that didn't pay INTO Social Security (such as state teachers retirement or a logal government system that didn't pay into social secuity) you regular Social Security retirement benefits will not be affected at all.

...

California state disability is NOT on of those retirement systems that can affect your Social Security.

...

You can read more about that here: https://ca.db101.org/ca/programs/income_support/sdi/faqs.htm
