I am retired from the military. I received a retirement

Customer Question

I am retired from the military. I received a retirement check and a disability check. Will I loose any of this if I sign up for social security

Hi, my name is ***** ***** I can help. There is no reduction in Social Security benefits due a military pension or disability benefits from the Dept. of Veterans' Affairs. See https://www.ssa.gov/planners/retire/veterans.html. The Department of Defense does have an optional survivors benefit plan that could affect survivors' benefits for your dependents, so their benefits could be affected if you choose to participate in the DOD survivors' program.

I hope this answers your question. Please let me no if I can clarify anything or answer any additional questions.

Thanks, Jonathan

I wanted to know if I would loose either one of the military retirement checks. Would I keep the military retirement check, the disability check and the social security check.

You should be able to keep all the benefits, military retirement, disability, and social security benefits.
