My wife passed away at age 56 in 2003,I remarried at age 59 3/4 in 2007.
When I tried to draw on her ss at age 62, I was told that since I remarried at age 59 3/4 I can not draw on her SS.
I am drawing my retire from office of personnel management cc.
Thanks
Terry

Megan C :

I realize you have a question about social security. My goal is to provide you with excellent service, and help you better understand your options.

Megan C :

Hello, Terry. I'm sorry to hear about the death of your wife

Megan C :

Unfortunately, what you were told is true - if you remarry prior to the age of 60, you cannot draw a survivor benefit.

Megan C :

If your marriage later ends, then you would be eligible for the survivor benefit. As you are married now, you are not.

Megan C :

I'm truly sorry if you expected otherwise.

Is there anything else that I can assist you with today?
