Hello: This is PhillipsEsq. I am a licensed Attorney and I will be assisting you today.

I am 68, still working and collecting ss benefits.
My wife is 68, still working but not collecting ss benefits.
How can we use spousal benefits provisions to our advantage.

Response: She can apply for spousal benefits now. She would collect on yours now. Then, at age 70, she would collect on her earnings if collecting on her record would be higher. Otherwise, she would instead get a combination of your benefits and her benefits that equals to the higher amount. For more information, click here. After age 70, she does not get any advantage for not collecting on her own record—she would not get any additional increase in her benefits for delaying her retirement.
