Ask a Social Security Question, Get an Answer ASAP!
Good afternoon Aida, I'm Doug, and I'm sorry to hear of the confusion. My goal is to provide you with excellent service today. Under the law, so long as: 1. Your marriage lasted 10 years or more between date of marriage and date of decree of divorce, (and yours did last the minimum time required) and, 2. So long as you did not remarry before age 60, or if you did you---that second marriage ended before your ex-husband died, and 3. So long as you are at least 60 years old now, Then you qualify for social security survivor’s benefits based on your deceased husband. So, as you are single now, and will soon be 60, as soon as you turn 60, you will be eligible to begin receiving your survivor benefits. Please keep in mind that, even though you have already paid your deposit money over to JustAnswer, until you rate me highly for my service, I will not be paid for having assisted you with your questions. If you have additional questions, you may of course reply back to me and I will be happy to continue to assist you further until your questions have been answered to your satisfaction. I wish you the best in your future. Doug

Hi Aida, Under the law you will be approved. No, the person you spoke with at the counter does not officially approve you---that is done by someone else in Social Security. However, you meet all the requirements for eligibility, you will get your approval and you may collect your benefits starting as soon as you turn age 60, in January. Yes, under the law, you qualify and will be approved before the date your benefits begin. You may reply back to me using the Reply link and I will be happy to continue to assist you until I am able to address your concerns, to your satisfaction. I wish you the best in 2013, Doug
And where does that latter approval come from . when. and if was going to be denied she would have told me that i was not elgible she would have told me. right . so when it goes to process that means they take the field case worker recommendetion and approve them?

Survivor benefits are cut and dry---black and white. If you qualify on those 3 items you get the benefit. The commercials you see on TV are for social security disability---not survivor's benefits.Thank you for your kind words. They are appreciated. Please keep in mind that even though you have already paid your deposit money over to JustAnswer, until you rate me highly for my service, I will not be paid for having assisted you with your questions. Thanks again. Have a great day, Doug
