Ask a Social Security Question, Get an Answer ASAP!
I realize you have a question about social security. My goal is to provide you with excellent service, and help you better understand your options.
Typically when you apply for benefits, you specify when you want the benefits to begin
The general rule of thumb is to apply roughly 60 days before you wish to start receiving benefits...so, it may still be a little early to file
But, when you do file you can let them know you want this to be calculated starting in January so that you only have 24 months of lag time.
so then the application has a place to specify benefit calculation date?
Yes, there is. And I just looked at the online application process and you can apply as early as 4 months before you want the benefit to start
So, you could apply now, if you wanted to start in January
