I realize you have a question about social security. My goal is to help you better understand your options.
How are you today?
First off, how old are you and did you remarry before the age of 60?
If you remarried before the age of 60 and are still married, then you cannot draw the benefit off your ex spouse's record
But you can if that marriage ends
Hello I am 55 and I married him about 23 years ago. We divorced in 2011 and I am not re-married.
You are not eligible to draw anything until you are 62
At that point, your benefit would be 35% of his benefit. If you wait until your full retirement age, then you get a full 50% of his benefit
Ok how do I go about doing that and what is my full retirement age? I just started back to work at 55 because I stayed home to raise children for 18 years.
Your full retirement age is 67
Wow more than ten years. Do you know how I apply for that
You can call 1-800-772-1213 or visit your local social security office
Do I contact my local office at that time or can I access forms on-line?
You can access the forms online if you like
It's right on the front page of www.ssa.gov
Thank you very much
I am not sure if I qualify for part of my Ex's retirement when he is 67 or when I turn 67.
